The image will display in the infobox in it's real size, capped by the value of the users "Thumbnail size" parameter in his appearance preferences. The width of the image should ideally be no less than 220px (the default value of the "Thumbnail size" parameter), and it should be no more than 300px on at least one side (the maximum value of the "Thumbnail size" parameter) to satisfy fair use criteria.

===Genre===
The one or more [[music genre]]s that the album reflects, [[delimiter|delimited]] by a comma should be listed here. Genres should be linked ([[Wikipedia:Piped link|piped linked]] where needed), for example, "Rock, pop" should link to [[rock music]] and [[pop music]] respectively. Note that most genres aren't proper nouns, and shouldn't be capitalized, but the first word in the list should be.

===Length===
The length of the album should be specified in minutes and seconds, even if it is longer than one hour, for example 74:23. Use {{Tl|Duration}}, for example <code><nowiki>{{Duration|m=74|s=23}}</nowiki></code>. It may be helpful to include a source in a comment, such as <code>{{nowrap|<nowiki></nowiki>}}</code>.

Several albums have been released with bonus tracks or multiple track listings. In this case, just list the length of the original release. In the case of albums which are released with multiple track listings simultaneously, only list the most common length or that of the standard edition of the album.

===Label===
Only the [[record label]] that the album was originally released on should be specified. Where significantly different versions have been released (featuring alternative track listings) e.g. in the US vs UK, the later release date or record label should be mentioned in the article, for example in a [[WP:ALBUM#Release history|Release history]] section. Drop words like "Records" from the end of the label's name (e.g. use <code>{{nowrap|<nowiki>[[Universal Records|Universal]]</nowiki>}}</code> rather than <code>{{nowrap|<nowiki>[[Universal Records]]</nowiki>}}</code>).

===Producer===
The name of the producer should be linked to the corresponding article. If there is more than one producer, the names should be delimited by commas.

==Professional reviews==
Formerly, a <code>Reviews</code> field was included in this template. Professional reviews should no longer be included in the infobox, but be described in paragraph form in a "Reception" section. See [[WP:Albums#Reception]].

==Chronology==
This group of fields establishes a chain connecting articles about an artist's albums. In a studio album article, the chain (for most artists) should include only other studio albums, excluding live albums and compilations; these other types can also have their own separate chains. For some artists it may be more appropriate to include all album types in one chain, but care must be taken to maintain the integrity of chains, so that when album "A" points to "B" as the next album, "B" points back to "A" as the last (previous) album.

All album titles should be italicized. The year of release for each should be listed in parentheses, separated from the album title by <code><nowiki> </nowiki></code> or <code><nowiki> </nowiki></code>. Wikipedia's [[Wikipedia:Manual of Style (dates and numbers)#Date formatting|date style guidelines]] recommend that years should not be linked within the chronology section. Cover images should not be included in the chronology, as that would not be [[Wikipedia:Non-free content|fair use]].

No more than one album should be included in any of the three slots in the chronology. Some albums can be part of more than one chain, using an [[#Template:Extra chronology|"additional chronologies" section]]. Albums released on the same day should be listed separately, ordered using the standard ordering of those albums, or alphabetically if no such standard exists.

Per the [[Wikipedia:TITLE#Italics_and_other_formatting|Article titles policy]], titles that are rendered in italics in running prose are also displayed in italics in the page title. By default, the infobox achieves this automatically for album articles. In unusual cases where the title would not be italicized in running prose, such as [[untitled Korn album]], set this parameter to "no" to prevent the page title from being italicized.

===Longtype===
This field can be used if you wish to include information such as the title of the film that an album is the soundtrack to, or the name of the artist that a tribute album is in honor of. The text in this field appears between the type and the word "by".

===Border===
Choosing "Yes" here will insert a 1px grey border around the cover image. This is useful for instances where the image and the background will blend together.

===Caption===
If the album has been issued with different front covers, which version the image refers to should be noted here.

===Language===
This field should identify what [[language]] or languages are used in the [[lyrics]] of the album (assuming the music contains [[vocals]]). Do not forget to [[Wikipedia:Disambiguation|disambiguate]] and [[Wikipedia:Piped link|pipe link]] when necessary. For example, if an album's lyrics are in English and French, you would use <code><nowiki>[[English language|English]], [[French language|French]]</nowiki></code>.

===Director===
This field is only applicable to [[music video|video album]]s. The name of the director should be linked to the corresponding article. If there is more than one director, the names should be delimited by commas.

===Compiler===
This field is only applicable to [[compilation album]]s of any kind where the person or entity responsible for selecting the album's track listing is known.

===Chronology===
This field can be used when the album belongs to an overall series that is not adequately described by the artist's name alone; in these situations, the text entered in this field replaces the artist name that would normally be displayed preceding "chronology". Examples include series of compilation albums compiled by different people, and series of soundtracks (which are often "various artists" collections).

===Misc===
A number of templates exist that can be inserted in the '''Misc''' field, including {{tl|Extra album cover}}, {{tl|Extra chronology}}, {{tl|Singles}} and {{tl|Audiosample}}. If you use any of these templates, don't forget to add a second set of closing brackets for the nested template. The {{tl|Singles}} template may be used as a miscellaneous addition to the infobox providing concise information about songs on the album that were released as singles. This template allows a [[Wikipedia:Navigation templates|navigational template]] to be set up relatively quickly by supplying it one or more lists of links. It comes equipped with default styles that should work for most navigational templates. Changing the default styles is not recommended, but is possible. Using this template, or one of its "Navbox suite" sister templates, is highly recommended for standardization of navigational templates, and for ease of use.

== Relationship with other Navbox templates ==
This navbox template is specifically designed to work in conjunction two other sister templates: {{tl|Navbox with columns}} and {{tl|Navbox with collapsible groups}}. All three of these templates share common parameters for consistency and ease of use (such parameters are marked with a '''†''' in the complete parameter list above). Most importantly, all three of these templates can each be used as children of one another (by using the <code>border = child</code> parameter, or by specifying the first unnamed parameter to be <code>child</code> (i.e. use <code><nowiki>{{Navbox|child</nowiki></code>, <code><nowiki>{{Navbox with columns|child</nowiki></code>, or <code><nowiki>{{Navbox with collapsible groups|child</nowiki></code>). == Technical details ==

*This template uses CSS classes for most of its looks, thus it is fully skinnable.
*Internally this meta template uses HTML markup instead of wiki markup for the table code. That is the usual way we make meta templates since wiki markup has several drawbacks. For instance it makes it harder to use [[m:Help:ParserFunctions|parser functions]] and special characters in parameters.

=== Intricacies ===

*The 2px wide border between groups and lists is drawn using the border-left property of the list cell. Thus, if you wish to change the background color of the template (for example <code>bodystyle = background:purple;</code>), then you'll need to make the border-left-color match the background color (i.e. <code>liststyle = border-left-color:purple;</code>). If you wish to have a border around each list cell, then the 2px border between the list cells and group cells will disappear; you'll have to come up with your own solution.
*The list cell width is initially set to 100%. Thus, if you wish to manually set the width of group cells, you'll need to also specify the liststyle to have width:auto. If you wish to set the group width and use images, it's up to you to figure out the CSS in the groupstyle, liststyle, imagestyle, and imageleftstyle parameters to get everything to work correctly. Example of setting group width:

*Adjacent navboxes have only a 1 pixel border between them (except in IE6, which doesn't support the necessary CSS). If you set the top or bottom margin of <code>style/bodystyle</code>, then this will not work.
*The default margin-left and margin-right of the outer navbox table are set to "auto;". If you wish to use navbox as a float, you need to manually set the margin-left and margin-right values, because the auto margins interfere with the float option. For example, add the following code to use the navbox as a float:

If the heading of the navbox spans more than one line, the second line will be displayed to the right of center. This can be avoided by hard-coding linebreaks with {{nowrap|<code><nowiki> </nowiki></code>.}}
