The descriptor (on the preceding "template") can be changed from its default using the first parameter, for instance {{tlc|Cleanup|section}} or {{tlc|Cleanup|disambiguation page}}.

This template can include the date it was applied to each page using the date parameter, for example, {{tlc|Cleanup|2=date={{CURRENTMONTHNAME}} {{CURRENTYEAR}}}}. If the parameter is omitted it will be added by a [[WP:BOT|bot]]. Pages needing clean-up are categorized by the date they are identified.

The reason parameter, {{tlc|Cleanup|2=reason=''reason''}} may be used to explain the purpose of identifying the page for clean-up, but it is better to use the talk page for this purpose, as other users can comment and discuss improvements.

Add a new section to the talk page explaining the type and extent of clean-up required so editors will know what to address, and when to remove this template.
