Bruce Kaphan with American Music Club

Kaphan and Vudi lived together in the late 1970s and played in a traditional country band called Curtis Bunch & The Wild Bunch, and later joined Vudi in Farmers for a brief period. Vudi introduced Kaphan to Mark Eitzel and he agreed to play pedal steel guitar on the band's 1988 album California and 1989's United Kingdom, and became a full-time member of the band by 1991's Everclear, in which Kaphan recorded, mixed and produced a great deal. Kaphan went on to play with the band through their 1994 San Francisco album. His last show with the band was on April 27, 1994.

Bruce Kaphan with Mark Eitzel

Kaphan played a variety of instruments on Eitzel's 1996 post-AMC solo album, 60 Watt Silver Lining. In 1997 Kaphan played pedal steel guitar on Cool For August's cover of American Music Club's "Big Night" from their Grand World album, which Eitzel sang on. Kaphan and Eitzel arranged the strings on "If You Have To Ask" from Eitzel's 1997 album West. In 1999 Kaphan and Eitzel reworked The Paradise Motel's "Cities" for their Reworkings album.
