"Big Night" is the first song on American Music Club's second album, 1987’s Engine. AMC's first version was recorded in 1986 during the Engine sessions, coined by the band "45 Minutes Of Hell".[1]
An early version of the song, entitled "Shadow Of My Name", appeared on Mark Eitzel's 1982 debut solo album, Mean Mark Eitzel Gets Fat - even though he announces at the beginning of the song, "This song is called 'Big Night'!"
Cool For August covered "Big Night" for their 1997 release Grand World, featuring Mark Eitzel on additional vocals and Bruce Kaphan on pedal steel. Their version also appeared on their 1997 MilkinSorgin EP.
