The Ugly American is the 7th solo album from Mark Eitzel. The album is a collection of American Music Club and Eitzel solo songs reinterpreted by Greek musicians and produced by Manolis Famellos. The last song on the album, "Love's Humming", was written by Famellos.
The UK & EU version was released in a cardboard slip case, while the US version was released in a regular jewel case.

The album was reissued on Tongue Master Records on 180-gram vinyl on August 14, 2020 in a limited edition of 500 copies. The album was cut for vinyl at Abbey Road by Alex Wharton. On March 19, 2021 Tongue Master Records issued a 180-gram blue vinyl edition, limited to 250 copies.
