Mallon first recorded [[American Music Club]] in an early incarnation in December of 1982 for an unreleased compilation, ''SF Acoustic New Wave''. The lineup at the time included Eitzel (vocals and guitar), [[Scott Alexander]] (guitar), [[Brad Johnson]] (acoustic bass), [[Greg Bonnell]] (drums) and [[John Hricko]] (bass). In February and April of the following year, Mallon again recorded the band with a new lineup which added [[Nancy Kangas]], [[Jeanie Szudy]] (bass), [[Mark Elliot]] (guitar), [[Mona Fisher]], [[Kim Wilkins]] and [[Stephen Clarke]].
