"All The Lost Souls Welcome You To San Francisco" is the 6th song on American Music Club's 9th album, 2008’s The Golden Age. A promotional CD single was issued to press and radio with plans for a commercial release date of September 15, 2008, but it only came to fruition as a digital 3-track release, backed with demos of "The Stars" and "Who You Are".
Mark Eitzel told Pop Culture Press that he wanted to write a song that could rival “I Left My Heart In San Francisco” as a love letter to his adopted hometown “That song is one of the perfect songs. I really love it. So I thought I would write my own tribute."[1]
Lyrics
Years ago my soul went missing
It was looking for a life no one would mourn
Now it stumbles like the smile of some fool
Looking to the sky for shelter from the storm
All the lost souls welcome you to San Francisco
It's a city that was built by firetrucks
and skeletons who grin and grin
Pimps and thieves who can't believe their luck
Saints who are only holy when they sin
Now I came looking for the party
So come on Marty, you're the king of 22nd Street
Just give me some hope, or at least enough rope
Can you make my heart feel complete
All the lost souls welcome you to San Francisco
You can always find me at the celebration
Waiting for the glory to strike me dumb
Trying to keep the good times rolling
Because they're almost gone
All the lost souls welcome you to San Francisco
It's a beauty our hearts all recognize and never get their fill
Everyone is humming a love supreme
And watching it pour softly down the hill
All the lost souls welcome you to San Francisco
