Songs | Songs Of Love Live is the first commercially-released solo record by Mark Eitzel. It was released on Demon Records as a side project while Eitzel was still a member of American Music Club.
The album | The album is a solo acoustic performance recorded live at The Borderline in London, England on January 17, 1991, with the exception of the last two tracks which are acoustic studio recordings.
Aside from "Take Courage", most of the songs had either already appeared on American Music Club albums, or would do so in the future. Five songs ("Firefly", "Western Sky", "Blue And Grey Shirt", "Last Harbor" and "Jenny") were from California, two more ("Gary's Song" and "Outside This Bar") were from Engine, a live performance of "Kathleen" is found on United Kingdom, and "Room Above The Club" was an a cappella version of the opening track on the band's debut album The Restless Stranger. "Crabwalk" would later be recorded and released on Everclear later in 1991; "Chanel No. 5" was recorded at the same sessions but kept back for the b-side to the Rise and Why Won't You Stay singles; "Nothing Can Bring Me Down" was an early version of Mercurys "What Godzilla Said To God When His Name Wasn't Found In The Book Of Life".
The liner notes from the album featured a review of the concert by Andrew Smith from the January 26, 1991 issue of Melody Maker. The album was reissued in 2000 on LP by Italy's Fruit Tree Records.
